College provides an opportunity to achieve qualifications, but you also have the chance to get so much more out of student life on and off campus. The following activities can be included as part of your timetable when you enrol:
Getting involved with: Sport
Godalming College has some of the best competitive and recreational sports facilities in the area. We have high specification netball/tennis courts, international standard rugby and football pitches plus a county size, fully equipped sports hall. We have a fantastic reputation for competitive sport and offer a full programme of team sports, including rugby, football, girls’ football, netball and basketball.
Coaches from Surrey Scorchers come to Godalming College each week to train the Basketball team and accompany the team to fixtures. The team have a great track record of outstanding play amongst the Surrey sixth form colleges.
There are three football teams which have a full programme of fixtures from September to March in a league against other sixth form colleges in Surrey (the 1st and 2nds both winning their leagues in 2016/17), in the British Colleges Sports Cup, in friendly matches with schools and in tournaments in the area.
The girl’s team are coached each week by a one of Fulham Football Club coaches. The ladies compete in the Surrey College’s league, in friendly matches and in Association of Colleges Cup and English School’s Football Association Colleges trophy.
The two netball teams compete in the Surrey sixth form college league and both teams were league winners in 2016/17. They also play in the Association of Colleges Cup and other tournaments and friendly matches with local schools.
The Godalming Rugby team compete in the South East league and are community link club for Guildford Rugby Club’s academy side. Guildford Rugby Club also provide elite development rugby support for the Godalming team. The College enjoys strong links with the RFU and is an RFU accelerated training centre; providing development for individual players and the Godalming team, a coach education programme and volunteering opportunities.
Fitness and Health
We offer a popular programme of fitness lessons, one-to-one personal training, challenges and activities in our fully equipped gym complete with full-time fitness instructor and this helps lots of students keep fit and healthy.

Getting involved with: The Arts
We were part of an Artsmark trial for FE College. We have been granted this accolade in recognition of our outstanding provision and also for our commitment to developing Arts at College, working with industry and community organisations including running Keynote speakers and CPD sessions for teachers in other colleges to promote best practice.
Drama and Dance
Theatre company ClassAction at Godalming College is a centre for excellence in Performing Arts and offers a unique training environment that is inspiring, nurturing, and supportive.
Alongside training from our own teaching staff you are regularly invited to work alongside industry professionals to ensure the training you receive is the best it can be. All ClassAction practitioners take part in productions either performing or backstage, whatever your preference, in our theatre, Studio 816. All ClassAction major termly producations are open to everyone in the college community; you are welcome to be part of them regardless of whether you are studying on one of our courses or not.

The music department is very vibrant and productive at Godalming College and you are welcome to be part of this regardless of whether you are studying on a music course or not. Peripatetic teachers come to College offering instrumental and singing lessons each week and there are many performing opportunities throughout the year as part of the Concert Orchestra, Contemporary Choir, Chamber Choir, Jazz Band or one of our many chamber ensembles. We welcome all students with a passion for any kind of music.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
The DofE is all about gaining new skills, pushing yourself physically, helping others and exploring new things. Join over 100 students working towards their Silver and Gold Awards. It’s a great way to make new friends and your teamwork and leadership skills will impress future employers and universities.

Each year an intrepid group of students volunteer to join an expedition to a developing country to learn more about the culture and community. They take part in a challenging expedition and also work on a community project which often involves building, decorating and refurbishment to provide amenities for local people. The NCS offers life-changing experiences in adventure activities allowing you to meet other young people with similar interests and develop valuable new life skills.
Getting involved with: charities and volunteering
Each year the College holds an Activities Fair for students to find out more about the College enrichment programme and volunteering opportunities locally. These opportunities can provide valuable experience that can be both rewarding and useful for your CV. Some opportunities are listed below.
- Friends of Dan - working to raise funds to support young people in Columbia and Surrey who need training and self-belief to enable them to live fulfilling lives
- Reading Scheme - supporting primary age children with reading development skills
- Shooting Star Chase - youth volunteer scheme at St Christopher's hospice for children and young people with life-limiting conditions
- Work experience and volunteering opportunities with KOOSA Kids
The Meath Epilepsy Centre - opportunities for fundraising and work experience

If you want to get involved, then Godalming is the place for you. We have clubs from Amnesty International to Zumba, societies from Advanced Linguistics through to Debating and the Secular Society.
