Leisure and Tourism GCSE
This course is a practical, one year course that is ideal for students who have an interest in the leisure, travel and tourism industries. Through visits to actual facilities and tourism destinations, you will build up an understanding of the importance of leisure and tourism industries to society and national/local economies, the impacts of activities on the local area as well as investigating why destinations appeal to different types of tourists. If you would like to study a subject that will broaden your experiences and gives you the opportunity to apply theory to practical work outside the classroom, this could be the course for you.
Entry requirements: This course is available to students who are studying on the Access programme and trying to improve their GCSE grade profile. Ideally, you should already have achieved at least 2 C grades at GCSE.
Course assessment: The course is 60% assignment and 40% exam. Unit 1 is a controlled assignment concentrating on leisure and tourism provision in a chosen area. Unit 2 is a written paper, based on a variety of leisure/tourism destinations, both in the UK and overseas.
