Performing Arts BTEC National (equivalent to two A Levels)

Performing Arts BTEC National (equivalent to two A Levels)

We recommend this course for those that are looking for a wrap-around foundation programme, those who are looking to go onto drama/performing arts schools. We strongly suggest including Drama and Theatre A Level in your choices to create an extensive theatrical programme. An EPQ in Performance or an Arts Award can be added in the second year to provide extension of your studies in this area.

This course gives you an understanding of all aspects of Performing Arts including acting and dance options, and combines it with the opportunity to focus on both performance and production support. You will work as part of the College’s ClassAction Performance Company and you will be challenged to professional standards of creative collaboration. This is a practical vocational course, requiring imagination, sensitivity and the ability to get on well with others.

You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. There are high expectations of students on this course, but it also offers the opportunity to perform with the best at the very highest level. You will be encouraged to find your own unique artistic voice as a practitioner.

Additional
Grade 4 in GCSE English Language as well as experience of performance and/or production. Related qualifications in drama or dance will be an advantage.
Assessment
There will be a combination of internally assessed projects and assignments, together with externally assessed examined units.
Progression
The BTEC National in Performing Arts is widely accepted and accredited by the great majority of universities as an excellent foundation for degree study. It also provides an invaluable foundation for vocational study.

As well as students studying the range of performing art subjects at many universities, over the past few years we have had students gain places at prestigious institutes such as RADA, Bristol Old Vic, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Lamda, GSA, East 15, Drama Centre, Mountview, Arts Ed, Birds, Performers, LABAN and London Contemporary Dance School.

The futures for our students are bright and exciting and future careers for ClassAction practitioners are rich and diverse as we develop the theatre makers of the future.
