I am an Upper Sixth Student at Godalming College. I study Physics, Maths and Chemistry as well as an EPQ (I did History as well in my first year). I came from a relatively small school, Duke of Kent School, and I feared the step up to a big college would side line me and make me fall by the way side. However, I was proved completely wrong! The support staff and students are really friendly and within the first few days I had already made many new friends.
The subjects I have chosen are, to say the least, challenging however the support network at college is fantastic. The teachers have an open door policy so if they are free you can get help quickly and easily. Also, subjects run help sessions and revision days as well. Furthermore, the Study Support Centre has proved really useful in helping me with my revision planning and my revision notes, as I found these very difficult before college.
Aside from studies, I have completed my Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award with college and started my Gold award. I have also been active in the Aim High programme that has helped me with my university application as I intend to study Aerospace Engineering at University. As well as this the Careers Department have helped me with my career progression plan and have helped me with advice on best interview techniques when concerning university interview days and for the RAF.
Overall, Godalming College has been a fantastic stepping stone for me from school to university and has helped broaden my horizons. I have met friends I will keep for life and have been able to live an active student life.
