The BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport, Development and Fitness has been a great course for me. I love sport and I want to be able to motivate children to love sport too by becoming a teacher. I feel the course has given me the knowledge and skills that I needed. It’s not easy, there is a lot of science involved, looking at the body and how it works, how to improve performance, psychology and nutrition, which I have particularly enjoyed. The structure of the BTEC course has suited me as it’s mainly coursework based. The units are challenging and there is a lot of work, you have to learn how to manage priorities, but because sport is what interests me I have been able to apply myself and get on with it.
I have also taken the level 2 and level 3 Leadership Award alongside the BTEC and this has given me a chance to put my skills into practice by organising sporting events, running sports sessions in a local primary school and volunteering at the Meath Centre in Godalming. These activities have really shown how I have developed and I am grateful for the opportunity to be involved.
The course covers all sports so I have learnt so much more about team and individual sports but my real passion lies with Football. I have enjoyed being part of the College team, we train every week and have regular fixtures in the Surrey Sixth Form Colleges
I will be going to the University of Chichester in September to take a degree in Physical Education and Sports Coaching with the intention of teaching sport in the future. I feel I’m ready now for the next challenge!
