An amazing £3789 has been raise by two groups of Hospitality and Event Management students at Godalming College who were tasked to hold a fundraising event as part of their coursework. The two groups were given the assignment earlier in the academic year for completion before Christmas. Both chose to provide something entertaining for the Christmas period, one organising a Christmas Fair in a school and the other organising a Quiz Night for parents and staff at Godalming College.
The money raised is donated to The Friends of the Ridgeway School, a school in Farnham that supports children with severe and complex needs. It is a charity that the students felt they had some affinity with as the son of their tutor Helen Sharp attends the school.
The first group of students raised £2279.33 by being part of the organising committee for The Ridgeway’s Christmas Fayre on Friday 30th November. They made cakes to sell, ran the bar, helped Santa, sold new gifts and contributed generally to a range of tasks to organise, set up and clear away the Fayre.
The second group who decided on a Quiz Night which they called Quizmas raised £1509.55. The Quiz Night on 7th December hosted over 85 people and provided a fish and chip supper, a bar, raffle and other money making games during the evening.
“All the students worked extremely hard to make both of these events so successful. I and the rest of the Hospitality and Travel and Tourism department are very proud of their commitment to this project and the amazing fundraising results that they have achieved” says Helen
A huge thank you to all those who helped plan, organise, set-up, run and clear away the fayre and to all those who came along on the day. We have raised a great amount for the school which is brilliant. Another huge thank you to Helen Sharp and her students for not just helping at the fayre but also holding a quiz night in aid of the Friends. Thank you everyone!
