Students take sports lead

Students from Godalming College enjoyed some hands-on experience of organising activities for younger children when they visited year 5 at Loseley Fields School for a sports afternoon earlier this month.

Using the knowledge gained on their BTEC sport course the sixth formers had to plan the event from start to finish. This included getting sponsorship, deciding on appropriate activities, designing certificates and thinking about health and safety. Following a supervised warm-up the children put their skills to the test and enjoyed a series of running, jumping, skipping and throwing challenges as well as a penalty shoot-out.

Steve Riley, assistant PE teacher at Loseley Fields, says, “It’s been good to have such a variety of sport and to see the children so active. I like the competitive element, and the children loved it.”

Speaking on behalf of the students, Jess Balchin adds, “We really enjoyed the afternoon, a big thank you to Waitrose, who were our sponsors and to Loseley Fields for allowing us to run our session at the school.”
