Level 3 Programme: A Level and BTEC Courses
Hospitality and Event
Management
BTEC National (level 3) Certi cate and Extended Certi cate
This is a one or two year programme which investigates the ever expanding and diverse Hospitality Industry. As well as focussing on the hotel and catering sectors, we also concentrate on events management, which combines many aspects of hospitality. We provide you with the opportunity to not only learn about this exciting and thriving industry, but also to organise your own events. You will study units in The Hospitality Industry, Providing Customer Service in Hospitality (which includes representing the College at a number of events), Events Organisation, Planning and Managing an Event and completing an Industry related project on an area of your choice. The course has been planned so that students will cover the units required for achieving
the certi cate level at the end of year one. Different aspects of the industry are explored by visiting organisations and inviting speakers into college. The course offers opportunities for students to be innovative and develop their interpersonal and research skills. These transferable skills will help career choices in either higher education or employment.
Additional Entry Requirements
A grade 4 or above in English Language, or at least a Merit grade in BTEC First Diploma in Hospitality.
Assessment
There will be a combination of internally assessed projects and practical assignments. Grades of Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* are awarded which are equivalent to A levels for the purpose of university entrance.
Information Technology
CTEC (level 3) Certi cate, Extended Certi cate and Diploma
There are two Cambridge Technical courses available to choose from according to the degree of specialism in IT that you wish to follow. These courses are designed to provide a very ‘hands on’ approach to IT and there will be opportunities for work experience.
The Extended Certi cate (equivalent to one A level)
The two-year study programme is divided into  ve units: four mandatory, externally assessed units that provide a basic grounding in IT and one unit from four specialist pathways which include units such as Games Design; Prototyping, Web Design, Application (Animation/ Graphic) Design, Computer Hardware. You will have an opportunity
to develop your employability skills and communication in IT – via classwork and work experience as well as improving your study, presentation and research skills.
The Diploma (equivalent to two A levels)
Comprising of eleven units, including the same mandatory units as the Extended Certi cate with an additional seven optional units which could include Social Media; Digital Marketing, Project Management, Product Development and Mobile Technology. The full quali cation will take two years to complete, although it is designed to ensure that you will cover the units to obtain the Extended Certi cate at the end of year one.
Additional Entry Requirements
Grade 4 or above in English and Mathematics.

There will be a combination of internally assessed projects and assignments, together with externally assessed examined units. Grades of Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* are awarded which are equivalent to A levels for the purpose of university entrance.
