Level 3 Programme: A Level and BTEC Courses
Performing Arts
BTEC National (level 3) Certi cate, Extended Certi cate or Diploma
This Performing Arts course gives you an understanding of all aspects of Performing Arts including acting and dance options, and combines
it with the opportunity to focus on both performance and production support. You will work as part of the College’s ClassAction Performance Company and you will be challenged to work to professional standards of creative collaboration. This is a practical vocational course, requiring imagination, sensitivity and the ability to get on well with others. You
will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. There are high expectations of students on this course, but it also offers the opportunity to perform with the best at the very highest level. You will be encouraged to  nd your own unique artistic voice as a practitioner.
Certi cate and Extended Certi cate (equivalent to one AS/A level)
On this course, students study both the theory and practice of a wide range of theatre styles. The course demands practical, creative and communication skills in equal measures. You will enjoy the course if you wish to develop your own skills, with an opportunity to specialise in different performance genres that you want to develop;
• Understanding of all aspects of performing arts
• An insight into the nature of the performing arts industry
• Understanding of employment opportunities, constraints and the issues facing professionals working with the sector
• A knowledge of the working methods used by professionals; as an individual in teams, with clients, commissioners and audiences.
You will develop skills that allow you to stage your own production events, whist also learning to record development and progress in order to re ect upon your own professional practice.
Diploma (equivalent to two A levels)
The Diploma is a foundation programme for those who wish to go on to work in the professional world of theatre or to apply for drama schools. This course is a unique two-year training programme where young practitioners learn to work as professionals in a modern, industry- relevant environment. Here you have the opportunity to build and develop a unique performance preparation programme of study.
We recommend this course for those that a looking for a wrap-around foundation programme, those who are looking to go onto drama/ performing arts schools. We strongly suggest including Drama and Theatre A Level in your choices to create that wrap around programme. We will partner this with either and EPQ in Performance or an Arts Award to complete your programme.
Students from the department have been successful in progressing to RADA, Bristol Old Vic, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Lamda, GSA, East 15, Drama Centre, Mountview, Arts Ed, Birds, Performers, LABAN, The Place, Urdang.
Additional Entry Requirements
Grade 4 in English as well as experience of performance and/ or production. Related quali cations in drama or dance will be an advantage.
Assessment
There will be a combination of internally assessed projects and assignments, together with externally assessed examined units. Grades of Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* are awarded which are equivalent to A levels for the purpose of university entrance.
