Level 3 Programme: A Level and BTEC Courses
Sport Development,
Coaching and Fitness
BTEC National (level 3) Extended Certi cate; Extended Diploma
There are two BTEC National courses available to choose from according to the degree of specialism in Sport that you wish to follow.
The Extended Certi cate (equivalent to one A level)
A broad basis of study for the sport sector. This quali cation is designed to support progression to higher education when taken as part of a programme of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Nationals
or A Levels. It is a two year course and you will study Anatomy and Physiology, Fitness Training, Professional Development and Leadership.
The Extended Diploma (equivalent to three A levels)
This quali cation is a full-time course in its own right, although you may wish to study additional courses alongside it. The Extended Diploma covers a range of topics designed to develop your thinking, behaving and physical competences. You will look at areas such as anatomy and physiology,  tness testing, sports coaching and event organisation.
You will also be given the opportunity to develop work based skills through experience in various leadership and volunteering settings. The full quali cation will take two years to complete, although it is designed to ensure that you will cover the units to obtain an Extended Certi cate at the end of year one. This quali cation is particularly appropriate for learners who are interested in progressing to a career in sports development or coaching either directly (with governing body quali cations) or via higher education.
The level 2 Award in Sports Leadership will be completed as part of both these quali cations and level 3 Sports Leadership as part of the 2nd year of the Extended Diploma
Additional Entry Requirements
Grade 4 in Maths and English and grade C in Science or the equivalent in other quali cations e.g. BTEC Extended Certi cate, and an interest in sport.
Assessment
BTEC Nationals in 2017 will use both internal and external testing. The external testing will include written examinations and set written tasks of a vocational nature.
