Let's Celebrate

The largest ever turnout for an awards evening met retiring Principal, David Adelman when he made his last speech to students and parents about his time at Godalming College and his hopes for the students leaving College this year. He shook hands with every student as they came to the stage to receive their award either for Effort and Determination or for Outstanding Achievement in their subject or for their contribution to the College or wider community at the Let’s Celebrate event.

Brenda Jenner, Chair of the Corporation and George Chantry retiring President of the Student Union both gave speeches relevant to the occasion. Brenda provided the audience with a little more information about David and his achievements whilst also congratulating the students present for working so hard to achieve their goals. George who until the day before the Let’s Celebrate evening was still taking exams for one of his five A level subjects will be looking forward to taking his place at Oxford later this year to study Politics, Philosophy and Economics. 

George has been instrumental in not only running the Student Union but also jointly leading the Secular Society at College, which promotes free speech and honest debate and has been an important member of the Jazz Band. The Let’s Celebrate evening also happen to coincide with his 18th Birthday. 

Brenda says of the evening, ‘This evening at Godalming College is always a celebration of the achievements of our students. We are very proud of the many and varied achievements of all our students. We also should celebrate the contributions and dedication of our staff who ensure that our students achieve to the maximum of their ability’.
