Godalming College students were excited to welcome The Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt, MP for Godalming and Ash, to an engaging Q&A session in the college’s main hall. The event drew a packed audience of Politics and Economics students, along with others eager to hear from such a prominent figure in British politics.
During the hour-long session, Hunt fielded a wide range of probing questions from the floor, covering topics from the state of the UK economy to the realities of political life.
This visit came at a time when Hunt has been active both locally and nationally. Since narrowly retaining his seat in the 2024 General Election, he has focused on key constituency priorities such as healthcare improvements and better GP access, infrastructure and road safety and environmental initiatives.
Head of Department, Imogen, said “Jeremy Hunt's visit was an invaluable experience for Politics students. Jeremy was able to provide insight into his role as a local constituency MP and to draw on a wealth of expertise from his various cabinet positions to tackle our students' probing questions. From PIP to Palestine, Zack Polanski to Nigel Farage, votes at 16 to the NHS, no stone was left unturned!”
Some of our students comments below:
Katie (L6th): “I think it was good that Jeremy Hunt told us what he thought rather than what we wanted to hear, for example, saying that 16 and 17 year olds are too immature to vote.”
Ford (U6th): "Jeremy Hunt's visit exposed his true views on some very central topics at the moment; from Palestine, to the winter budget- his opinions and advice came through loud and clear. It was truly insightful to hear such a politically experienced man share his advice on the youth in politics and local current affairs!"
Ellie (L6th): “I really enjoyed the session and found it very interesting. I learned a lot and thought that it was good to listen to someone who has experience in Parliament. I also thought that he was a very good speaker.”
