Amelie P (Spanish A Level)

I chose to study Spanish because I have always loved learning languages and I didn’t want to lose the opportunity to develop such a valuable skill. The course includes so many aspects of Hispanic culture and I have enjoyed learning about everything from cultural heritage to the dictatorships in Spain and Latin America. I liked being able to branch outside of the curriculum in researching the contemporary debate around the conquest of Mexico for my Independent Research Project. The weekly speaking sessions are very useful in gaining confidence and fluency, while the teachers are very supportive.

I have found that college life has taught me how to balance the workload and spending time with friends. I have enjoyed the degree of independence that you get at college, which I feel has prepared me for university life.

I’m so glad I decided to join the Aspire programme as it made me feel confident in applying for languages at Oxford by providing all the information I needed and encouraging me to read around my subject. My mentor supported me in preparing for interviews which I found particularly helpful.
