I chose Music Technology as I had taken music GCSE and I wanted to expand my knowledge on how to create and record music, as well as having had the course recommended to me by a few girls in the year above me, and their love for creating music was very inspiring to me. I particularly enjoyed component 2, which is creating a technology-based track, using synthesis, sampling and creative effects. I loved learning about the history of music technology as well, and how different technologies defined eras and genres of music, and also researching music technology outside of the course. I have become so much more confident since taking Music Technology, as when i joined I didn't know very much about music technology at all, and was quite nervous, but now I love it and it’s easily my favourite subject. The teachers are brilliant and really helpful and will always find a way to improve your work.
My favourite part of college life is all of the friends I've met, especially the art, textiles, music and photography students. Godalming has so much care for the arts and I feel that has really made me thrive in being able to meet people who are into all of the same things as me, and who are equally passionate about their subjects as I am. Godalming is incredibly supportive of everyone's hopes for the future, and really helps everyone get to where they want to be for university or anywhere they choose to go next.
The music practitioners course is unbelievably fun! I'm in a band with my absolute best friends and we have so much fun playing together. The coursework is really enjoyable and definitely nothing to put someone off taking it. we recently had our final performance and having all of our friends screaming and dancing along was the best feeling. We've also started booking gigs outside of college and we can't wait to continue playing together.
