Holocaust survivor shares his life story with history students

Holocaust survivor Marcel Ladenheim visited history students at the College as part of the Holocaust Memorial Day to talk about his early life in Nazi occupied France.  

Born in 1939 in Paris, Marcel spoke movingly of the deportation of French Jews during the war, including Jewish children and his own father, who never came back from Auschwitz. The subsequent hospitalisation of his mother resulted in Marcel spending the war hidden by two French sisters.  

“We were thrilled to welcome Marcel Ladenheim, a survivor of the Holocaust, to College to talk to our upper sixth history students who have been studying the Holocaust as part of their work on Nazi Germany”, says History teacher Imogen St George. “Touching on themes of persecution, separation and collaboration, Marcel's talk certainly enriched our students' understanding of this important historical event.”
