Luke makes it big at Dorking Film Festival

Congratulations to Media and Photography student, Luke Whatley-Bigg who is runner up in the Young Adult Short Film category of the Dorking Film Festival with his film about Kingston Upon Thames. The sixth annual festival is to celebrate the local area of Dorking, Surrey and the South East and this year took place online due to COVID restrictions.

Luke who at the age of 18 is an established film maker with paying clients, embarked on the project in May 2020 during the first lockdown using previously filmed footage of the local area.  It was a project that would help to use his time wisely and also included his mum Tania.  Tania is a professional actress and helped out by writing the script and doing the voice over.

The 3 minute film is one of over 150 films that can be viewed on YouTube including his winning entry from last year.  No stranger to winning photography and film competitions, Luke advises to “start entering competitions early, I started when I was 13 and made my website at the age of 15”.  His website can be viewed here https://www.lukewhatley-bigg.com with the strapline, see the world from a different perspective.  He also advises you to “buy equipment so that you can learn what works best for you’”

Luke’s dream is to become a freelance photographer and filmmaker and we think you will agree that he truly has made an extraordinary start.
