Snack and Chill Event for Young Carers

The recent Snack and Chill event provided a welcoming opportunity for young carers to come together, relax, and access valuable support within the college community.

The event was organised by Amy Tidd, the college's Young Carer Lead, and featured an engaging plant-based cooking activity led by Fredie, Head of French and founder of Joyfull Greens, a plant-based community cookery school. Participants enjoyed learning new cooking skills while creating healthy and delicious refreshments in a relaxed and friendly environment - our Wellbeing Hub.

The event was also supported by Pam Howard from Luminus, who shared her extensive knowledge and offered information, advice, and support tailored to the needs of young carers. In addition, Lucy King from the college's Student Futures Team attended to provide guidance on progression opportunities and the support available to students throughout their college journey and beyond.

The afternoon gave young carers the chance to meet others in similar circumstances, enjoy refreshments, develop new skills, and discover the wide range of support networks available to them. It was a positive and enjoyable event that strengthened connections within the young carer community while highlighting the support services that can help students thrive both personally and academically.

We hope to run at least one Young Carers event each half term and warmly welcome all young carers within the college community to get involved. If you would like further information, advice, or support, please contact college@godalming.ac.uk. We look forward to helping more young carers connect with each other and access the support available to them.
