Hi, my name is Zach Thomas and I am a student at Godalming College studying for an IT Games and Web Development BTEC National Diploma. I have always had an interest in the world of IT and games and this course is the perfect starting point. I have been able to explore different video games development companies, looking at how they operate in the business world and how they develop the games I often play myself.
Being a BTEC, it is really helping me to develop skills I could use in the workplace as well as university and it is the equivalent of two A levels, which means I am still getting great qualifications for my future. The course caters for experienced and novice games designers, like myself, which makes me feel like I am still making satisfying accomplishments, even when many of my classmates are more experienced. Being able to design and create a game has certainly been the most fun part so far. There are also other skills you learn such as utilising social media in business and how to manage databases. The skills I acquire from this BTEC can be used in an apprenticeship or university, I am not sure which path I want to take yet but I am keeping my options open.
