I’ve always enjoyed creative subjects that allow me to use my creative skills to the highest extent, and the Graphics course has allowed me to do that. From first visiting the college through the open days, I was able to grasp from the sketchbooks that I would want to take a subject like this.
Studying Graphic Design at Godalming has helped me to develop my previous skills from GCSE but also learn new skills through experimentation but also from the help of teachers. Although the course is demanding at times and needing to give extra time towards it, it’s helped to improve my time management skills and was beneficial as the work I produced was something I was proud of. The subject also allows me to take creative liberties, and experiment with my creative process with what I design and how I want my outcomes to be (which is shown through my component 1 work - focusing on feminism and cultural expression through music).
The department is brilliant, with constant guidance with one-to-ones which help to guide me in the right direction but are also friendly. The department also has access to a wide range of equipment and materials which other colleges don’t offer. The course itself has interesting things to learn, not only different techniques but different artists and art movements and design philosophy which I found to be one of my favourite parts of the course.
