Florence Poulter (Textiles A Level)

Case Study

Studying textiles at Godalming has been an amazing experience. Georgie and Vicky the tutors are really helpful and come up with really exciting and creative suggestions for your work.   I’ve always loved textiles, when studying at GCSE I really enjoyed experimenting with different techniques and fabrics to see what I come up with.

At Godalming I’m studying Biology and Psychology, it was really nice to be studying an additional subject where I had the space to explore my creative side instead of learning loads of content.

I have learned a tremendous amount from the course. In the first year you cover loads of different techniques and skills as well as new ways to present your work. This varies from Collage and trappings to crotchet, knitting embroidery and different print techniques.   Then in the second year you get to choose your theme for your personal project and you can choose the techniques you would like to explore further.

Career wise I am taking a year off before I go to Uni or Art College. I want to get some experience behind me before I commit to my degree course.  So far I have lined up work experience at a design studio which should give me a greater insight into what it is like working in a commercial but creative environment and gave me greater clarity in what I would like to pursue.
