Individual Sporting Success

We’re incredibly proud of everything our students achieve, both here at the College and beyond. Below are a few students who have accomplished amazing things in their chosen sports outside of College.

Lower 6 student Ollie Jermy, had the privilege of representing the South of England on Saturday 7th February in the Home Countries & Celtic Countries International Cross Country, incorporating an Inter-Area match.

It was held at Parliament Hill, London as part of the London Cross Challenge which is a historic venue for cross country events in the past. He was selected as one of four South of England runners in the under 20 men age group based on his performance at the South of England cross country championships in January, where he placed 5th in the under 20s race, and was 1st of the first year runners in this age group, with it being a three year age band.

Here is Ollie's summary of the event:

It was a great experience, staying with the team and team managers in a hotel in London the night before the race. On the day the conditions were horrendously muddy, and I was a little disappointed with my performance, finishing 19th out of 35. However, due to being the bottom of the age group I am delighted to have just been selected and hope to be back again next year.

Also I have been selected for the Surrey teams at the CAU Inter-Counties in March, after recently becoming the Surrey County under-20 champion, as well as the English Schools National Championships, following my 2nd placed finish at the Surrey Schools Championships so lots more to look forward to this XC season.

Congratulations to Ollie and we wish him all the best for his upcoming races.

Harry Humphreys, a U6 BTEC Sports student, recently achieved a major milestone in his rugby career by representing the Gibraltar National Under-23s rugby team in an international fixture against Jamaica. The match took place in London and marked Gibraltar’s final game before their acceptance into Rugby Europe, adding extra significance to the occasion.

Harry’s selection for the national U23s squad came following an impressive season with the Gibraltar 7s rugby team, during which he toured across Europe and competed at a high level against international opposition. His performances on the 7s circuit caught the attention of national selectors and earned him the opportunity to step up to the U23s setup.

Facing a physically imposing Jamaican side, Gibraltar delivered a strong and disciplined performance, securing an impressive 28–22 victory. The match was highly competitive, testing the squad’s resilience, fitness, and teamwork, all of which were on full display throughout the game.

Harry’s involvement at international level highlights both his commitment to rugby and the practical application of the skills he is developing through his BTEC Sports studies. Competing on the international stage demonstrates his talent, work ethic, and ability to perform under pressure.

This achievement is a proud moment for Harry and the college, showcasing a clear pathway from academic study to elite sporting performance. Representing Gibraltar at such a pivotal moment in their rugby journey is a testament to Harry’s continued progression and potential within the sport.
Congratulations to Harry on an outstanding achievement and a memorable international victory.
