Men’s Football enjoy a season to remember
It has been an outstanding run for men’s football, packed with big scorelines and memorable cup moments!
The 1st XI set the tone early on this term with a Hampton Trophy victory over Wilson’s, with Callum Bonner delivering a Man of the Match performance. While their unbeaten run came to an end later in January with a 2–0 loss to Royal Russell (Jack Fowler earning MOTM), the response since has been nothing short of exceptional.
February brought one of the season’s defining moments, as the 1st team edged a tight 1–0 win over Harrodians to book their place in the Surrey Schools FA Cup Final. Reece Beattie was the match-winner, while Dan Cannon’s outstanding display earned him Player of the Match.
In cup competitions, the squad has continued to impress on multiple fronts. A strong 3–1 victory over Reigate secured a place in the Surrey Sixth Form League Cup semi-finals, before a dramatic 2–2 draw with Wilson’s saw them triumph 5–3 on penalties to reach the final. Unfortunately, they just fell short in the league decider against Glyn, scoring 1 goal to their 2, but they have two moe cup finals after the Easter break!
There was also a valiant effort in the National Cup, with the team reaching the quarter-finals before narrowly losing on penalties to East Sussex College. Following last year’s semi-final run, to get to the quarter-final again in a national competition really highlights the consistency and quality of the squad.
Meanwhile, the 2nd XI have been in sensational form, including a dominant 2–0 win over Reigate and a remarkable 14–1 demolition of Esher. Luke Kerr stole the headlines in that fixture with four goals and a Man of the Match performance, while Kyle Grayling also impressed earlier in the campaign.
Netball sides shine this Spring
It has been a superb stretch for the netball squads with some standout performances and tournament success.
The 1st VII have led from the front with a series of dominant displays. Big wins over Barton (54–33), Itchen (58–49), and Peter Symonds (52–41) showcased their attacking strength, while an incredible 82–37 victory against Collyer’s marked one of the performances of the season, with Evie S earning Player of the Match. They continued their fine form with a 45–30 win over Brockenhurst and an impressive 39–16 away victory, again against Esher, underlining their consistency. At the end of March, they beat Farnborough 44-38 to become the Hampshire league winners!
The 2nd VII have also enjoyed an excellent run, securing strong wins against Woking (34–13) and Peter Symonds (20–18). Their efforts culminated in a fantastic tournament performance, finishing as runners-up and demonstrating their competitive edge throughout.
There have been plenty of positives from the other squads too. The 4th VII started the period in style with a 27–17 win over Salesians, with Cydney, Megan, and Isla all recognised as Players of the Match for their contributions. Meanwhile, the 3rd VII added to the success with a confident 18–9 win over Brockenhurst.
Hockey teams delivering drama
An exciting time for hockey, with dramatic finishes and national-level success showcasing strength across the squads.
The mixed hockey team got things off to a flying start with an impressive 5–1 victory over Esher, where Tess and Megan both delivered standout performances to share Player of the Match honours. They followed this up with a thrilling National Cup quarter-final clash against Farnborough, drawing 2–2 in a tightly contested game before narrowly losing 2–1 in the shootout. Bella Lumb was outstanding and deservedly named Player of the Match.
The women’s hockey team achieved a fantastic third-place finish at the England Hockey National Finals. Facing strong opposition from Ampleforth, Shrewsbury, and Culford, the team competed brilliantly throughout. Despite narrowly missing out on a place in the final, their performances against top-tier competition were hugely impressive, with one opposition player even likened to Erling Haaland due to their goal-scoring prowess.
In regular fixtures, the women’s team continued to show resilience and fighting spirit, edging a 3–2 victory over Farnborough thanks to a last-minute penalty. That determination was on display again in a 2–1 win over Peter Symonds, where the team battled to hold onto their lead under intense pressure.
Rugby sides continue to make their mark
Both the women’s and men’s teams have been delivering standout performances and building real momentum this term.
The U18 Godalming & Esher women’s side made a fantastic start to their AOC (Association of Colleges) campaign, securing a dominant 32–7 victory over Peter Symonds. In a brilliant team performance, 20 players got valuable game time, highlighting the squad’s depth and development while setting a strong tone for the competition.
Meanwhile, the men’s rugby 7s team enjoyed an impressive run at the Surrey 7s tournament held at Reigatians RFC. Drawn in a competitive group, the team produced two emphatic wins, beating St Andrews 42–0 and RGS Guildford 28–0. Their only group-stage defeat came in dramatic fashion, losing 28–26 to Ibstock School following a last-play conversion.
Undeterred, the squad bounced back superbly in the knockout stages. A determined second-half performance saw them overcome St Celia’s High School 35–14 in the quarter-finals. The semi-final clash against Hampton School Bs proved a step too far, with the team narrowly losing 22–14 despite an outstanding effort against a clinical opposition.
Smashing success for the Badminton team
A sensational season for the badminton team, defined by an outstanding team spirit from start to finish.
The campaign got off to a strong start with an 8–2 victory over Queen Mary’s College, setting the tone for what would become a run of great results. That form only intensified in the return fixture away at QMC, where the team delivered a superb performance to win 10–0, dropping just a single game across all matches—an incredible display of control and quality.
Confidence continued to build as the team secured a convincing 9–1 away win against Chichester, once again highlighting their strength and ability.
The season concluded in perfect fashion with a flawless 10–0 victory over Gordon’s B team in their final league fixture. It was a fitting end to an excellent campaign.
While no individual Player of the Match was awarded in the final fixture, reflecting the collective strength of the squad, special recognition goes to the outgoing Upper Sixth players—Yui Tse, Grace Lui, Ralph Gardner, and Mo Khaliq. Their commitment, performances, and leadership over the past two years have been a huge credit to the team and have played a key role in this season’s success.

Women’s Rugby Collab
Our women’s team have been partnering with Esher Sixth Form College, and played their first ever 15-a-side league match this term. Although they lost their most recent game against Worthing College, coach John Breach noted that they are showing massive improvement , particularly with their intensity and continuity. They scored their first try in regular time and we’re excited to follow their progress. The team are performing against colleges where rugby is a core part of their programme, with up to 10 hours per week of coaching and training, plus some game time. In comparison, the Godalming/Esher team have been coming together for just 90 minutes per week, but are making good progress with their continued enthusiasm and effort.
