Autumn term sports round-up 2025

Godalming Girls Win Gold

Our Women’s Hockey team won their regional tournaments and will progress to play the Tier 3 National Final in Nottingham on 9 February 2026, facing the best teams from each region.

Coach Vicky described their performance as ‘stunning’ in the regionals! They played two very competitive rounds, only conceding one goal throughout the entire tournament. Star player, Tess Westley, played extremely well, and recognised for her consistent and commanding defensive displays.

Representing National Teams

Five of our students have been selected to represent the England Colleges National Teams through the Association of College Sport.

Hockey: Alex Underwood, Daisy Smeed and Tess Westley
Football: Blaise Gethen Smith
Netball: Daisy Harding

This is a huge testament to their talent, dedication and the outstanding opportunities available at Godalming College.
Blaise played his first England game in December, winning 3-1 against Independent Schools FA. We look forward to following the journeys of these talented sports stars

Women’s Rugby Collab

Our women’s team have been partnering with Esher Sixth Form College, and played their first ever 15-a-side league match this term. Although they lost their most recent game against Worthing College, coach John Breach noted that they are showing massive improvement , particularly with their intensity and continuity. They scored their first try in regular time and we’re excited to follow their progress. The team are performing against colleges where rugby is a core part of their programme, with up to 10 hours per week of coaching and training, plus some game time. In comparison, the Godalming/Esher team have been coming together for just 90 minutes per week, but are making good progress with their continued enthusiasm and effort.

Men’s Rugby Driving Forward

Our first team have moved up into a more competitive league this term, playing well against Hartpury 3rds, Henley 1sts, Cardinal Newman 3rds, Oaklands and Sigma College. They were top of the league after the first round of results.
The second team have been playing in the Surrey Sixth Form League with some successes which they hope to improve on; a notable game in November against Esher with a 42-19 win.

Women's Football

Women's Football continues to go from strength to strength at Godalming. Being the only Surrey Sixth Form with two competitive Teams, Godalming currently sit top of the Hampshire Sixth Form Football League, having had some impressive wins against Peter Symonds, Barton Peverill and Spartsholt. The girls also sit second in the Surrey Sixth Form League, with impressive wins over Strode's. The girls unfortunately, got knocked out of the Surrey Cup against Reigate this term, narrowly losing on penalties, however, they are through to the next round of the Hampshire Cup, after another close encounter with Barton Peverill.

Men's Football

Football 1sts have played some great games this term.
In November, they played the AOC Sport South East Regional 7-a-side tournament.  They qualified from the group stages and beat Reigate College in the quarters, 2-1, moving on to beat Barton Peveril College 2-0 in the semi-final. Unfortunately, our team had three injuries at this point, so didn’t make it to the final, but a fantastic achievement nevertheless!

The 1sts have also beaten Peter Symonds (4-2), Strodes College (3-0), Brockenhurst College (4-1) and  Salesians College (3-2) this term. We will be hosting Henley College in the ECFA Cup in December.

Football Seconds – Second in the League
Our Football 2nd Team had a tough game against Woking College this term, but their well-deserved win put them in joint second position in the league. A great team effort!

Netball Highlights
Playing in the Sisters in Sport league, our netball teams have all been playing well this term, with a couple of great results in November; the 1sts beating Farnborough 2nds 46-25, and the 3rds beating Barton Pevril 32-22.

Badminton

Godalmings first win!
Our badminton players have been playing well in their league and have their first ever win over Gordon’s in November (6-4).

Cross Country
In October, our girls team came fifth out of 12 teams and the boys won! They will go through to the regionals.

Swimming

Godalming College delivered an impressive performance at the Guildford Spectrum ESSA Secondary Team Relays, securing 4th place in both the Freestyle and Medley relay events.

Representing Team GBR
Congratulations to Finn Wildman, selected to represent Team GBR in Horseball this term in Belgium. In the summer, Finn captained the U21 GB Team in Le Mans, and he’ll be trying out for the U21 selection again next year. In the meantime, he’s playing and training with his team, North London Horseball.
